Big Responsibility

This morning I sat in our "Mother's Tea" for my middle daughter's preschool class and a very wise woman was telling us what she loved most about being a mom. She mentioned that it scares her also the great responsibility she has as a mom. That she can make wonderful or destroy her family with just her words. Commenting on how her husband, who is a manly man can be destroyed by just one harsh word from her reminded me of my responsibility to my husband, children and others in my life. She's right.

We often forget how just a few critical words or exasperated remarks can really deflate someone's spirit. Today I'm going to try to not deflate anyone. Though I'm not solely responsible for their inflation, I am responsible to not pop the balloon. Each person's spirit is delicate and should be treated as such.

My prayer for the day is, God, please help me treat all those I come into contact with as though I have the opportunity to inflate their balloon. Let me cease that opportunity to continue to help them soar. Amen.

Greeting

It occurs to me just how much I need positive words in my life. The scriptures tell us that your words can be the well-spring of life to others ... or your tongue can cause death. I'm writing this blog as my personal beginning to using my words better with some select people in my life with whom, quite frankly, I could use better words. I am doing this blog to become an advocate of using kind words. That's not to say I'll be perfect, by any means. But at this point, I want to prove that constantly using kind and encouraging words to others WILL improve relationships and quality of life ... theirs as well as mine. Tomorrow will start day 1 of my experiment. Remember, God tell us:

Therefore encourage one another and build one another up, just as you are doing.
